Marcos Guerrero, RPA, is a Principal Investigator and Senior Archaeologist with over 25 years of anthropological and cultural resource management experience throughout the Pacific Southwestern United States and Central and South America. He meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications and Standards in Archaeology and specializes in California Archaeology, wildland and coastal urban interface disaster recovery, transportation, oil and gas, energy transfer, water conveyance, flood control, and major infrastructure projects.
Marcos brings deep expertise in tribal historic preservation, environmental compliance, and interagency coordination under CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 regulations. He has documented and evaluated thousands of cultural resources, managed the treatment and disposition of human remains under state and federal laws, and is certified by the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution. His background also includes serving as the NAGPRA Coordinator for American River College and supporting biological monitoring for multidisciplinary environmental projects.
At Environmental Resource Compliance, LLC (ERC), Marcos serves as Principal Investigator and Program Manager on high-profile recovery and fuel treatment projects, including DR4795-NM Salt Fire and DR4886-NM Severe Storms, Floods, and Landslides in coordination with FEMA, the NM State Historic Preservation Office, and the Department of Homeland Security. His leadership responsibilities include directing archaeological field crews, conducting historic property documentation, GIS data management, and authoring cultural resource deliverables. As Program Manager for the Butte County Fire Safe Council Fuel Treatment Projects, he oversees archaeological surveys, site documentation, and mitigation planning to protect cultural and tribal resources during fire prevention operations.
Marcos manages data workflows and mapping systems using ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Wildnote, and Excel databases, and works closely with tribal representatives, agency officials, and field personnel to ensure compliance, safety, and technical accuracy. He also provides policy guidance and delivers cultural resource sensitivity training to staff and contractors. Known for his leadership, cross-agency collaboration, and expertise in both archaeology and environmental compliance, Marcos brings a thoughtful and solutions-driven approach to the protection of cultural and historic resources across complex project environments.
Marcos earned a Master of Arts in Archaeology from New Mexico State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of California, Davis.
